<p>A furcation apparatus (10) for a multi-conductor cable (62) of the type having reinforcing fibers (64) for longitudinal strength. The furcation apparatus (10) includes a furcation spacer (12) having a plurality of passages (34) extending through an interior of the furcation spacer (12) from a first end (30) to a second end (32). Each passage (34) is of a size sufficient to receive a furcation tube (50) having reinforcing fibers (52), and each furcation tube (50) is of a size sufficient to receive one of the plurality of conductors (60) of the cable (62). The furcation tube reinforcing fibers (52) approach the furcation spacer (12) from the second end (32) and are anchored adjacent the first end (30), and the cable reinforcing fibers (64) approach the furcation spacer (12) from the first end (30) and are anchored adjacent the second end (32), such that tensioning the furcation tube reinforcing fibers (52) and cable reinforcing fibers (64) places the furcation spacer (12) under compressive stress.</p> |
