The device has a sliding piston unit subjected to pressure by a low pressure amplifier chamber and a high pressure chamber at the ends for fuel compression. The unit has a second smaller cross-section to form a difference chamber for connection to a leakage line. At least one control channel in the low pressure chamber is connected to the difference chamber, whose opening is closed/opened depending on movement of at least parts of the piston unit. The device has a sliding piston unit (30a) subjected to pressure by a low pressure amplifier chamber (13a) at one end and a high pressure chamber at the other for fuel compression. The unit has a second smaller cross-section to form a difference chamber (10a) for connection to a leakage line (16). At least one control channel (33,35) in the low pressure chamber is connected to the difference chamber, whose opening is closed or opened depending on the movement of at least parts of the piston unit.
