Method for recording at least one capacity parameter for a motor vehicle battery in which at regular given or selected times the capacity parameter is measured using recording instrumentation connected to the battery and stored in a storage unit together with the time of measurement. Recording of the battery capacity parameter is normally undertaken with the engine switched off. An Independent claim is made for a motor vehicle equipped with battery monitoring equipment. The battery monitoring period can be from a couple of hours up to periods of weeks. The parameter measured is the battery voltage.
