The through-flow heater has a microwave source and a microwave applicator (1) with a rectangular cross-section, coupled to the output of the microwave source directly or via a rectangular hollow waveguide, the dielectric pipe (2) for the flow medium extending parallel to the coupling opening (5) for feeding microwaves to the applicator and perpendicular to 2 opposing sidewalls (3,4) of the applicator.
