The invention relates to a device (1) for inserting packing items into packing material. A packing item-conveyor device (2) and a packing agent conveyor device (3) are provided in the region of an insertion device (2) and a pre-insertion device (3). Said conveying device comprises at least one conveyor tappet (5A - 5C) and pre-insertion device comprises a covering tongue (7A 7C) corresponding to the conveyor tappet. Said conveyor tappet and covering tongue are guided in a substantially transversal manner in relation to the direction of displacement of the conveyor devices, the displacement of the conveyor tappet (5A - 5C) and the covering tongue occurring by means of a servomotor drive device (8, 9) coupled to the conveyor tappet and the covering tongue. Said insertion device and the preinsertion device can be oscillatingly displaced by another servomotor drive device (11) parallel to the direction of displacement of the conveyor devices coupled to said insertion and preinsertion devices, whereby the drive devices (8, 9, 11) are controlled separately by a drive control device.
