<p>An EL element comprising a light transmitting basic material, a light transmitting electrode layer provided on the first surface of the basic material, a light emitting material layer provided on the light transmitting electrode layer, a back face electrode layer provided on the light emitting material layer, and a waterproof insulation layer covering the light emitting material layer, the light emitting material layer and the back face electrode layer. This EL element and an illumination unit comprising it exhibit excellent waterproofness. The light transmitting electrode layer, the light emitting material layer and the back face electrode layer are formed on the outer circumference of the basic material or on the inside of the end face of a hole or a cut made in the basic material.</p> |
