摘要 1,009,497. Road surfacing machines; tanks. J. H. HOLLAND CO. Jan. 14, 1964 [Jan. 14, 1963], No. 1594/64. Headings E1G and E1T. A road surfacing machine comprises a sprayer to apply a coat of asphalt to the surface, a spreader for depositing aggregate over the asphalt and means for compacting the aggregate into the asphalt. A chassis 16 carries a primemover 12 driving six pneumatic tyred front wheels 44 by shaft 58 and chain 78 and have five rear wheels 80, offset in tracks to provide continuous compaction coverage of the surface, steerable through a yoke 86. A centrally mounted asphalt tank 22 is heated by an internal flue 40 from a gas heater 34 and supplies hot asphalt to nozzles in a spraybar 274 through a pump 410, the tank being replenished from a semitrailer supply tank 14. An aggregate receiving and distributing hopper 100 is mounted on the front end of the chassis and has means 220 to engage the wheels of a dump truck to allow filling of the hopper on the move. The hopper 100 has an extension 134 which together with extensions 278, 280 allow spraying and aggregate distribution over a wider area. In operation the machine is driven up to the dump truck to engage rollers 214 with the rear tyres and arms 222, 232 are moved inwards by a hydraulic jack to engage rollers with the tyre sides and the rim interior. Aggregate is shot into the hopper 100 as required, while the machine pushes the dumptruck, and is spread by an auger roller 176 to a feed roller 178 supplying the aggregate to a number of gates adjustable by levers 132. When the hopper extension 134 is in use a corresponding auger and gates 152 operated by screws 156 provide similar adjustable distribution. The heated asphalt is pumped from the tank 22 to the spraybar 274 which has a number of nozzles 294 each centralled by a three-way valve 292 such that the asphalt may be sprayed or returned to the tank if the valve is shut. The spraybar extensions 278, 280 are hinged and have their inlet 286 and outlet 290 ducts connected by flexible hoses 334, 336, the outlet ducts 290 leading a pipe back to the tank system. The weight of asphalt in the tank 22, which is replenished by syphoning from the trailer tank 14, maintains a substantially constant load on the compacting wheels 44, 80 and, due to the proximity of the base of the tank with the surface, retains the sprayed asphalt at working temperature during compaction. A series of valves in the asphalt pipe lines provides for filling and emptying of the tank 22, the circulation of asphalt to provide mixing in both tanks 22 and 14 and means for clearing and cleaning the system.
