A plastic rotationally molded polyethylene buoyancy tank (10) for boat lifts allows connection of a framing steel (51) to lengthwise grooves (18,19) molded into each sidewall (13,14) of the buoyancy tank (10). Preferably, a plastic bulkhead (22) is formed within the tank (10) during its molding process. A segment of framing steel (51) is bracketed between a pair of inwardly tapered compressible opposed grips (30). The compressible grips (30) each have outwardly tapered slots (36) with mating tapered rigid inserts (44). With the inserts (44) partially seated on the grips (30), the grips (30) are slipped lengthwise or pressed laterally into their respective grooves(18,19). Bolts (47,48) extending through the grips (30) into threaded holes (45,46) in the inserts (44) are tightened to pull the grips (30) over their tapered inserts (44). This spreads and compresses the grips (30) in their respective grooves (18,19), locking the brackets (52,53) and connecting steel (51) in place on top of the tanks.

|
