The batteries (3) are recharged by a circuit including conventionally a diode (D1) to guard against connection with reversed polarity. An additional diode (D2) is provided in series and has a breakdown voltage chosen to correspond to the difference in charging voltage between a nickel-cadmium and a nickel-metal hydride battery, multiplied by the number of batteries on-charge. For an ordinary battery of 6 cells this additional diode can be a Schottky-barrier device with a breakdown voltage of about 0.25 V. The charging and discharging contacts (4,6) are separated so that the diodes have no influence on behaviour of the connected equipment.
|
