In a process for making a filter element comprising a pleated filter material bonded to a frame, the material of the frame (2) is injected in a flowable state into the open folds (6) of the filter medium (1) on the upstream side (with respect to flow of the fluid to be filtered) and is then bonded to the walls (12) of the folds during its automatic cross-linking. Also claimed is a filter element in which the whole of the outer edge (3) of the folded filter medium (1) is fluid-tightly wrapped over the outer edges of the filter frame and is formed as a seal.
