A transmitter (8) connected to the sensor, reports the number of turns detected, to a remote receiver (5). Preferred features: The transmitter employs IR or radio signals. The receiver is connected to the machine controller or forms a component of it. The receiver tests the value of the number of turns. The sensor includes a row of photocells (6) to measure light reflected from the guide, in the region wrapped by turns. Each cell measures reflected light in a discrete region of the guide (1, 2). The sensor is formed by a light beam moved along the guide and the wrapping of threads. The sensor may be constructed as a measurement gun with handle and sighting device, which projects a marking to indicate the measurement region on the thread guide. The gun has a fork which can be slid along the group of threads on the guide, leaving clearance, and having the measurement beam across its open end. A press-button (16) initiates transmission from it to the receiver. |
