<p>A latch assembly comprising a selected one of a latch (18,118) or striker (25,125) mountable to a vehicle door (12) and the other of the striker or latch mountable to a vehicle body (15) or a second door (14) of a vehicle (10) for releasably securing the first door to the body or second door by relative displacement of the latch towards the striker, the releasable securement being achieved by engagement of a latch bolt (46) of the latch with the striker, movement of the latch bolt to releasably retain the striker being in a first plane, the assembly being provided with the vertical wedge means comprising a first wedge surface (48) on the latch and a second wedge surface (66) on the striker, the first and second surfaces co-operating so as to compensate for any misalignment and/or substantially prevent movement in a direction parallel to the first plane between the striker bar (34) portion of the striker and a mouth (36) of the latch, the latch being of the plant in type.</p> |
