NEW SULFATE TRANSFERASE AND ITS GENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new Gal:→3 sulfate transferase specifically acting on Galβ1→3GalNac, enabling the enzymatic synthesis of O-bonded sulfated sugar chain and expectable for the mass-production of sulfated sugar chain and the application to conjugated polysaccharide pharmaceuticals and functional foods and provide the gene of such sulfate transferase. SOLUTION: The gene for the sulfate transferase is Gal3ST-4 gene which is the 4th member of Gal:→3 sulfate transferase and found by retrieving an ETS database with Gal3ST-1 amino acid sequence for screening a new member of a Gal:→3 sulfate transferase family. The Gal:→3 sulfate transferase activity has been confirmed by the expression of the gene.
