PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ADAMTS protein, designated ADAMTS-E which is a member of the family of proteins known as ADAMTS proteins. SOLUTION: The invention relates to a polynucleotide encoding ADAMTS-E, an antibody to ADAMTS-E, an assay for studying the function of ADAMTS-E, an assay for determining agonist or antagonist of ADAMTS-E, and also to the use of ADAMTS-E polypeptide or polynucleotide in diagnostic, biotherapeutic, or gene therapy methods.
