PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a body rear structure capable of ensuring both body rigidity and impact absorption characteristic without impairing the design freedom of bumper shape. SOLUTION: A rear end cross member 6 comprises a branch part 13 branched to the upper part and lower part of a bumper stay 7 in a part corresponding to the connection part between a rear side member 2 and a rear end panel 1 so as to vertically enclose the bumper stay 7. Accordingly, even if the sectional height dimension LC of the rear end cross member 6 and the crush stroke L3 of the bumper stay 7 that is a shock absorptive member are taken into consideration, the projection LB (<1b ) from the body rear surface to the bumper rear surface can be suppressed to ensure both the body rigidity and impact absorption characteristic, and the design freedom of bumper shape can be also enhanced.
