PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact image recording apparatus capable of achieving precise transfer without the transfer displacement. SOLUTION: This image recording apparatus comprises a first transfer unit 3 for transferring a second transfer ink layer 2a of a transfer film 2 onto a first transfer layer 1a of a film 1, and a second transfer unit 4 for transferring the second transfer ink layer 2a and the first transfer layer 1a onto a plastic card 5 such that the film 1 wound around on a first reel 6 is taken up by a second reel 9. The first transfer unit 3 comprises a drum 15 and a pair of rollers 16, 17 for fixing the film 1 on the drum 15. With a positioning mark M provided on the film 1 with a certain positional relationship with respect to the first transfer layer 1a, an optical sensor S2 is provided in the drum 15 for sensing the positioning mark M so as to specify the transfer position of the film 1.
