Cont. prep. of olefins contng. mainly propylene under adiabatic conditions. H2S or a mixture of H2S with either CS2 or SO2 in which the H2S content is >=50% is reacted with an oxygen-contng. stream in a ratio of 0.2-1 pt. oxygen per pt. of sulphur cpd., at 2500-4500 degrees F. and 20-150 psia. in an oxidn.-reaction zone. The effluent is passed to a dehydrogenation zone and mixed with a light-hydrocarbon stream contng. >=50 wt.% propane and free of olefins and higher m.wt. hydrocarbons having >=4C atoms per molecule, the wt. ratio of oxygen to propane being 0.05-1.5:1. The mixture is contacted at 1600-4500 degrees F., 14-1400 psia. for 0.001-60 secs. to obtain an effluent contng. ethylene and propylene. Process gives high yields of propylene with a high conversion rate.
|
