PURPOSE: A thermostat diagnosis is carried out considering outer air temperature and a blower operating state not to misjudge disorder of the thermostat. CONSTITUTION: A valve opening delay time is determined by measuring coolant temperature at starting. Then, A compensation of the valve opening delay time is carried out considering an engine load state by calculating intake air amount. The compensated valve opening delay time is reduced in real time, then a monitoring condition is decided by soak time. If it is a monitoring condition, outer air temperature is calculated from the intake air temperature. A coolant temperature is measured when the valve opening delay time had elapsed. If the coolant temperature is less than the valve opening temperature, it is decided as a disorder.
