PURPOSE: A VFD(Vacuum Fluorescent Display) is provided to reduce the manufacturing time of substrate and simplify the manufacturing process of the substrate by simultaneously forming an anode, a line electrode, and a non-transmission unit. CONSTITUTION: A pair of front and rear substrates(14,16) is comprised of a vacuum vessel together with a side glass. A filament(18) is mounted within the vacuum vessel and emits thermal electrons. A wiring layer(22) is provided on one of the two substrates(14,16) and electrically connects the inside of the vacuum vessel. A fluorescent layer(20) is comprised of plural segments and radiated by the thermal electrons emitted from the filament(18). The wiring layer(22) is comprised of plural anodes(22a) having an extended unit(22'a), a lead pad(22b) to be connected to an external terminal, and a line electrode(22c) electrically connecting the lead pad(22b) to the anodes(22a).
