Aromatic amines are prepared from a corresponding nitro compound by a gaseous phase catalytic hydrogenation, wherein the hydrogenation is carried out in the presence of catalysts containing palladium, vanadium, lead and rhenium. The catalyst are supported on a ceramic carrier with BET surface less than 40 me2/g, whereby the palladium content ranges within 1 to 50 g, vanadium content is within the range of about 1 to about 50 g, the lead content ranges within 1 to 20 g and rhenium is present in the amount of 1 to 20 g per one liter of the ceramic carried material, at a temperature ranging from 180 degC to 500 degC in a catalyst bed and at molar ratio of hydrogen to the nitro group or nitro groups within 3 : 1 to 30 : 1 and at pressure ranging from 0.05 to 0.5 MPa. In the present invention there is also claimed the corresponding catalyst. |
