1,144,090. Metallic-fibre board. MEAD CORP. 20 June, 1967 [27 July, 1966], No. 28432/67. Headings D2A and D2B [Also in Division E1] A composite sheet comprises a metal fibres layer of nickel or stainless steel, supported on and intermingled at their interface with a supporting layer of cellulosic fibres such as rag or wood pulp, synthetic pulp, synthetic organic fibres such as acrylic, nylon, polyester and rayon, vegetable fibres such as cotton linters, ramie, hemp, sisal and mitsumata or glass fibres. The sheet is produced by depositing from aqueous suspension the supporting layer followed by the metal layer onto the already formed supporting layer. The forming mesh of the paper making machine is thus protected from damage by the metal fibres by the supporting layer which can later be removed by burning the formed sheet. A second supporting layer may be deposited after and on top of the metal layer, to protect the press and calender rolls of the papermaking machine. |
