[Also in Divisions B8 and E1] A burial vault (e.g. 7 x 2À5 x 2 feet) illustrated with reference to Figs. 1 and 4 and comprising a box member 12 and a lid member 13 having thin, rigid, inner and outer walls of glass fibre reinforced polyester resin, the walls being separated by rigid, foamed cores 40, 41, which completely fill the spaces between the walls and which are thicker and of lower density than the walls, may be manufactured by introducing liquid foamable material, e.g. polyurethane and a blowing agent into a pair of moulds for a box member (see Figs. 2 and 3) and a lid member (see Fig. 5), the quantities being sufficient to form a dense, foamed core in each mould (e.g. under a force in the range 950 to 2500 lb.), followed by removing the moulds and then encasing each core with a thin layer (e.g. # inch thick) of glass fibre and reactive polyester and allowing to dry and thereby set.</p> |
