PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the external circulating load of an external circulation agitating device which externally circulates a fluid in an agitation tank without using a source of mechanical power such as a pump, and can adjust the external circulating load and a fluidized state in the agitation tank at the same time. SOLUTION: The external circulation agitating device 1 is provided with an agitation tank 10 for housing a fluid L, a rotary shaft 11 provided vertically and rotatably in the agitation tank 10, an agitation vane 12 which is attached to the rotary shaft 11 and agitates the fluid L housed in the agitation tank 10, and external piping 13 which communicate the side surface of the agitation tank 10 to the bottom surface of the agitation tank 10 outside the agitation tank 10. The method is a method for controlling the flow rate of the fluid L flowing through the external piping 13. In the agitation tank 10, a baffle 20 is provided so as to cross a rotation direction in the horizontal surface of the fluid L in the agitation tank 10. The flow rate of the fluid L flowing through the external piping 13 is increased and decreased by changing the length of the baffle 20.
