PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste treatment process by which nonmagnetic foreign matter can automatically be separated from crushed waste. SOLUTION: This process comprises: using a conveyor 1 provided with sets of rows of rod-like projections 4, which are arranged on a conveying surface of the conveyor 1 in the length direction over the entire length and any of the rows of each of the sets consists of the rod-like projections 4 erected and arranged on the conveying surface in its width direction over the entire width, at intervals of the length shorter than the length of any of the pieces of foreign matter N to be separated; placing the belt conveyor 1 so that the length direction of the conveying surface of the conveyor 1 has an inclination to the entire length of the conveyance surface; while retaining that inclined state, upwardly driving the conveying surface of the belt conveyor 1; and allowing crushed waste S contaminated by the foreign matter N to fall on the inclined conveying surface at a point in the vicinity of the middle point in the length direction; wherein the foreign matter N is caught by the rod-like projections 4 and separated from the crushed waste sliding down on the conveying surface and the caught foreign matter N is upwardly conveyed and then, removed from the rod-like projections 4 and separately collected.
