PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a movable armrest for chairs by which reasonable adjusting motions with a fine feeling during operation and highly accurate motions are obtained despite of its compact structure. SOLUTION: A post body 1 to support the armrest is placed upright. A T-shaped, or L-shaped, an armrest body 6 has a cylindrical body 8 equipped with inner sleeve 2 with dented parts 2b aligned vertically on the outer peripheral surface, an attaching part 7 for the armrest formed horizontally at the upper part, and a vertical opening 8a, where the inner sleeve 2 is fit, below the attaching part 7 for the armrest. The armrest body 6 is fit over the post body 1 by inserting the inner sleeve 2 into the vertical opening 8a. The armrest body 6 is mounted to the post body 1 through the inner sleeve 2 in a manner that the armrest body 6 can make an horizontal angular rotation and can elevate along the post body 1 by providing an operating lever 10 on the front surface of the armrest body 6 by supporting the middle part of the lever 10 by a shaft 10a.
