The strip has a first stop surface and a second stop surface extending at an angle of preferably 90 deg. to the first surface. The strip also includes a chamber which is open to the surroundings. The strip can be used to form a border (8) for a piece of artwork by at least two methods. In a first method, the strip is placed with its first stop surface in contact with the rear side of at least one base plate (5) for the artwork, so that a decorative strip (35) around the artwork can be secured to the second stop surface and press the artwork against the first stop surface. In a second method, the profile is slid with its open chamber over a length edge of the artwork in order to form the frame. Independent claims are also included for (a) picture frame assembled from these strips and (b) the two picture frame assembly methods using these strips.
