PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus having a plurality of process speeds or resolutions in which the real mean value of fast copy time can be shortened. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus for forming an image through an electrophotographic process by scanning on an electrostatic carrier 202 with a laser light generated based on image information outputted from an image information generating means through a rotary polygon mirror 604 comprises means for generating the laser light, and means for driving the rotary polygon mirror 604. The drive means comprises a control means for forming an image at a plurality of stages of driving speed being switched, and means for selecting an adaptive driving speed preferentially among the plurality of stages of driving speed. The rotary polygon mirror 604 is driven with a driving speed selected by the driving speed selecting means at the time of starting operation. |
