PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which the edge part of a line extending across a plurality of pixels or one dot line of black is prevented from becoming too thick and the thickness of a longitudinal line is prevented from becoming different from that of a lateral line. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises means 40 for making a decision whether the pattern of a remarked pixel and a plurality of peripheral pixels thereof in image data of a plurality of bits indicative only of density information inputted from a scanner or externally matches any one of a plurality of specific patterns indicative of the edge part of an image or one dot line and generating corresponding data as code data if they match each other, means 50 generating PWM data for controlling the emission timing of a laser diode, means 60 for setting quantity of light data for modulating the mission power, and means 80 for generating emission data from the code data and modulating the emission time and/or emission power of the laser diode based on the PWM data and the quantity of light data.
