PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller and a controlling method of printer in which PF measurement can be executed even at a time other than the time of turn on power in order to control a sheet feed motor for driving the sheet feed mechanism of a printer being used in various environments with high accuracy even when a sheet is fed by a small amount at a time. SOLUTION: In the controller and the controlling method of a printer, an operation required for PF measurement measuring the motor current depending on the sheet feed drive load at the time of constant speed driving of a sheet feed motor is commanded and executed depending on detection of specified conditions other than detection of turn on power.
