PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a running toy which allows its speed control such as deceleration for avoiding derailment at a curve or the like when it is run on a rail or the like, and allows to simplify the speed-control mechanism for the speed control and reduce its cost. SOLUTION: The speed control mechanism has a gear mechanism increasing the rotation of the wheel axis 1 of a wheel 2 to drive and a gear mechanism decreasing it. The rotation of the rotation axis 6 of a motor 5 can be selectively transmitted to either of the two. A gear mechanism to which the rotation of the motor 5 is transmitted can be altered by switching the rotation direction of the rotating axis 6 of the motor 5.
