The invention relates to novel arylalkyl- or aryloxyalkyl-substituted oxiranecarboxylic acids of the general formula Iin which Ar, R3, Y and n are as defined in the description, and also to medicaments comprising them and to their use for the treatment and prophylaxis of the disorders mentioned in claim 4 which are caused by disturbances of glucose and/or lipid metabolism, such as, for example, diabetes type 2 and other insulin-resistant conditions.
