Esterified highly crystalline polyoxymethylenes are cooled from esterification temperature to crystallization temperature by mixing with a cooler liquid. The cooler liquid may contain aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, or axomatic hydrocarbons, ethers, esters or ketones. The process may take place continuously and acetic anhydride may have been the esterification agent. Apparatus for carrying out the process is described.
