PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device preventing the undesirable effects caused by projections and recessions formed on a surface of a light diffusion layer. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with first and second substrates 1, 2 placed opposite to each other, a liquid crystal layer 3 arranged between the substrates 1, 2 with a liquid crystal sealed therein and a reflection electrode 8 arranged opposite to the second substrate 2 and is constructed so as to make the light incident on the first substrate 1 reflect on the reflection electrode 8 and emitted from the first substrate 1. The light diffusion layer 14 including a transparent resin 16 and particulates 15 dispersed in the transparent resin 16 and having a refractive index different from the refractive index of the transparent resin 16 is disposed on the surface 1a side of the first substrate opposite to the surface 1b which is opposite to the second substrate 2.
