PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peptidyl hydroxamic acid derivative having potent PDF inhibition action and antibacterial action. SOLUTION: Peptide deformylase inhibitor and an antibacterial agent containing a compound represented by formula (I) (wherein R<1> is a (substituted) 6-10C aryl group, R<2> and R<3> are the same or different and show hydrogen or a 1-4C alkyl group, and R<4> is a 1-5C alkyl group) or the salts are provided.
