PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element with improved durability by preventing deterioration of an organic compound layer. SOLUTION: The organic EL element 1 is structured with a positive electrode 3, a negative electrode 5, a single or a plurality of organic EL layers pinched by the electrodes, and a polymer layer 6 including a pendant type ultraviolet absorbent between the positive electrode 3 and a transparent support 2. The polymer layer 6 having a pendant type ultraviolet ray absorbent may be fitted on the transparent support body opposite to the positive electrode 3. Further, a protective layer (not shown) may be fitted on the polymer layer 6, and, moreover, it can be structured to have the polymer layer 6 or the protective layer utilized also as sealant.
