1,036,168. Spray carburetters. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. March 18, 1965 [March 27, 1964], No. 11471/65. Heading F1B. In a constant suction type carburetter the fuel metering needle, controlling the fuel flow to a fuel nozzle 45, Fig. 8, situated in the space between a spring-loaded air flap 35 and a throttle valve 24, is controlled by a cam 73 moved axially in accordance with the opening of the flap 35. In the duplex carburetter shown, with a pair of nozzles 45 opening into separate mixing chambers 28, the cam 73, of nylon, is carried by a rod 64 connected to the flap 35 and actuates a cam follower 77 carried by a lever 75 to which a pair of metering needles 54 is adjustably fixed. An eccentric pivot 76 of the lever 75 is rotatable by a lever 116 connected to a bimetallic coil 87, Fig. 9 (not shown) whereby the fuel-air ratio is enriched at cold starting. The coil 87 also controls a fast-idling cam 117 for the throttle valve 24 and a cam member 127, Fig. 5 (not shown) which cooperates with a lever 129 to hold the flap 35 partly open when starting with a warm engine. The cam 73 is rotatable about the shaft 64, to produce mixture enrichment at full power, by a lever 139 carrying a pin 140 sliding through an aperture 141, Fig. 7 (not shown) in a rod 142 connected to a piston 145 actuated by intake manifold suction. |
