PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus that can accurately inspect the packaging state of various roll bodies having different diameter and/or width under optimum conditions, and to provide a method for accurately inspecting the packaging state of the various roll bodies. SOLUTION: After image pickup units 52a and 52b are displaced to a specific site corresponding to the diameter and length of a light-shielding light-sensitive roll 30 to be supplied, an image near the corner section of the light-shielding light-sensitive roll 30 is picked up by first image-pickup sections 88a and 88b and second ones 90a and 90b, and the packaging state of the light-shielding light-sensitive roll 30 is inspected according to the obtained image.
