PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recorder capable of additionally recording photographed image data even when no deletable image exists among already existing image data recorded in a memory or even when a memory capacity is insufficient. SOLUTION: The data recorder is provided with a calculation means 105 for calculating the size of input data and the residual capacity of a recording medium in the data recorder for storing data obtained from an input device to the recording medium, a selection means 102 for selecting the data of the recording medium or input data, a size conversion means 103 for modifying the data size of the selected data, and a writing means 107 for writing the input data to the recording medium. When the size of the input data is larger than the residual capacity of the recording medium, the input data is written after the size of the data selected from the data of the recording medium is modified.
