PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable image recording material having low Dmin, high Dmax, ultrahigh contrast, aγvalue of >=10 and superior storage stability and suitable for use in a photomechanical process. SOLUTION: The heat developable image recording material contains at least photosensitive silver halide, a reducible silver salt, a reducing agent, a binder and at least one compound of formula (1) on the base. In the formula (1), Z is alkyl, aryl or a heterocyclic group; W is aryl or alkyl substituted by an electron withdrawing group; and M is a counter cation.
