PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Mo-containing high Cr high Ni austenitic stainless steel plate which stably exhibits high ductility, and is suitable for a heat exchanger plate. SOLUTION: The austenitic stainless steel plate has a composition containing, by mass, <=0.08% C, <=4.0% Si, <=1.5% Mn, <=0.05% P, <=0.005% S, 20 to 30% Cr, 20 to 35% Ni, 3 to 8% Mo, 0.02 to 0.3% N, 0 (no addition) to 4.0% Al, 0 (no addition) to 4.0%, Cu, 0 (no addition) to 4.0% La+Ce and 0 (no addition) to 0.05% B, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and in which the volume of aσphase is <=1.0%. The steel plate can be produced by a method where a cast material is heated at the material temperature of 1,240 to 1,280 deg.C for >=1 hr, is thereafter extracted, and is subjected to initial hot rolling at a rolling ratio of >=20%, the hot rolled steel plate is then heated at the material temperature of 1,200 to 1,280 deg.C for >=1 hr, is thereafter extracted, and is subjected to finish hot rolling, and the hot rolled steel plate is annealed at the material temperature of 1,120 to 1,200 deg.C.
