PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating device of a traffic signal for pedestrians, which has high operability. SOLUTION: In the operating device, the operating signal is outputted by using the inside of an insertion groove 20 recessed to the inside 11 of the device main body 10 for a detection area B where the detected light of an optical sensor 30 crosses on the outer surface 12 of the device main body 10 and changing the detected light, for example, by an operator's finger when the operator's finger is entered into the insertion groove 20 to operate the device. Thus no control force is necessary to be applied to the operating device, no optical sensor 30, etc., is necessary to be provided on the external surface 12 of the device main body 10. Also the operator's finger entering into the insertion groove 20 is prevented from abutting on the projecting part of the optical sensor 30, etc.
