PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heterocyclic compound which is useful as an insecticide. SOLUTION: The heterocyclic compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein Y is ethylene or trimethylene group which may be substituted; W is a group represented by -SO2 R1 ; X is oxygen atom, sulfur atom, a group represented by -NR2 or -CHR3 ; R is hydrogen atom or methyl group; and Z is pyridyl group).
