PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester using a new polyester polymerization catalyst other than antimony. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyester is characterized by adding the polyester polymerization catalyst comprising at least one kind selected from aluminum and its compounds as a metal-containing component and at least one kind selected from phenolic compounds to an oligomer satisfying specific viscosity conditions, specific acid value conditions, specific hydroxyl value conditions, specific molecular-weight conditions or specific esterification ratio conditions.
