PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe lead storage battery which does not have any possibility to fire gas discharged from a cell even when sparks generate at a terminal portion and to provide a highly safe lead storage battery less effected even if it fires the gas. SOLUTION: The lead storage battery is provided with a middle lid 11 and an upper lid positioning above the middle lid and separates a positive electrode terminal 17 and a negative electrode terminal 18 from a ventilation path 13 set in a space and a gas exhaust opening 14 communicating to the outside of the battery in the lead storage battery which is provided with a mechanism to exhaust the gas generated in the battery to the outside of the battery through the space surrounded by the middle lid and the upper lid.
