The coating is applied without the prior application of an intermediate layer. It is applied by flame pulverisation immediately after removal of the flange. This is carried out by means of planning while the flange is still in anincandescent state. The plane is preferably roughened. The heat persisting after the welding process enables the particles projected in the neighbouring superficial layers to be diffused. The plane and the pulverisationappts. are located one behind the other behind the welding apparatus in the processing line.
