PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit off-upshifting only when a driver has a stopping intention of a vehicle by predicting whether or not the driver has the stopping intention of the vehicle. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a stoppage intention prediction means for predicting whether or not a closing operation of an accelerator is due to an intention of stopping the vehicle by subsequently stopping on the brake. When the closing operation of the accelerator is predicted to be due to the stopping intention of the driver by the stopping intention prediction means, a shift inhibition means for inhibiting an up-shift is provided. Because the off-upshifting is inhibited when predicting that the driver has the stopping intention, the off-upshifting is inhibited and the generation of an event for imparting unnatural feeling to the driver can be prevented also when the driver has no stopping intention. When the driver has intention of stopping the vehicle, the off-upshifting is inhibited, and thereby a busy shift, in which the up-shift is performed by the closing operation of the accelerator and a down-shift is performed by a succeeding braking operation is prevented. |
