PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To treat traumatic brain impediment(TBI) or hypoxic or ischemic apoplexy. SOLUTION: An NR2B subtype-selective N-methyl-D-aspartic acid(NMDA) receptor antagonist is administered in combination with one of (a) a neutrophil- inhibiting factor(NIF), (b) a sodium channel antagonist, (c) a nitrogen oxide synthase(NOS) inhibitor, (d) a glycine site antagonist, (e) a potassium channel opener, (f) an AMPA/kainic acid receptor antagonist, (g) a calcium channel antagonist, (h) a GABA-A receptor modulator (e.g. GABA-A receptor antagonist) or (i) an antiinflammatory agent to a patient requiring these therapies.
