PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for protecting fault condition of a switch mode power supply. SOLUTION: One mode of operation includes a power circuit provided with an auto-restart function which turns on and off a power supply repeatedly under fault conditions. In one embodiment, one or more off-times following the detection of a fault condition is smaller than the subsequent off-times.
