PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner, in which a comfortable indoor environment can be attained rapidly by reaching a set indoor-temperature in a short time. SOLUTION: The air conditioner is provided with a controller 50 which automatically switches the four operations of a cooling operation, a heating operation, a cooling-cycle dehumidification operation, and a heating-cycle dehumidifying operation, based on difference between a set indoor temperature and room temperature. The cooling operation is performed, by using an indoor heat exchanger 5 as the vaporizer and an outdoor heat exchanger 3 as the condenser; heating operation is performed by using the indoor heat exchanger 5 as the condenser, and the outdoor heat exchanger 3 as the vaporizer. In the cooling-cycle dehumidifying operation, one part 5b of the heat exchanger 5 is used as the vaporizer, and the other part 5a of the indoor heat exchanger 5 as the condenser, and the outdoor heat exchanger 3 as the condenser. In the heating cycle dehumidifying operation, the one part 5b of the heat exchanger 5 is used as the condenser and the other part 5a is used as the vaporizer, and the outdoor heat exchanger 3 is used as the vaporizer.
