PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to receive multilingual character information. SOLUTION: In contrast with character fonts, what is termed ink font is defined. The ink font is a new concept such that the trajectory (X coordinate, Y coordinate) produced when writing a character with an electronic pen is turned into codes, which are saved to make the ink font, and when reproducing, as one draws a line along the trajectory, the line forms the character. When the received e-mail is to be transferred to a recipient's terminal, the character data are transformed into movement information on the line segment that is termed ink font, which is transferred then, so that even if the character font is not prepared for the terminal, the original character can be represented by linking the trajectory (X coordinate, Y coordinate) represented as a dot sequence.
